We are an innovative non-profit humanitarian organization based in La Paz, dedicated to offering comprehensive healthcare services to marginalized populations in Baja California Sur (BCS).
We use a holistic approach to address healthcare challenges through continuous education and medical services, seeking to achieve a measurable impact across affected communities in BCS.

Mission
To provide preventive and curative healthcare services to the most vulnerable populations: children, youth at risk, mothers, the chronically ill, the elderly, and populations facing social exclusion.

To offer an integrated approach that addresses the deep root causes of community health challenges, while providing preventive care, education, outreach, and continuity of care, through a clinical center with a holistic vision and community outreach brigades,

Education
Through workshops, community talks, hygiene campaigns, nutritional guidance, and close family support, we promote healthy habits that can make a long-term difference. Our approach seeks not only to treat illness but to strengthen knowledge, awareness, and self-care capabilities in every individual.
In addition to at Fundación Astra, we know that prevention is the best tool to transform a community’s health.
Therefore, in addition to providing medical care, we work actively in health education, particularly within vulnerable communities across Baja California Sur.
We promote educational initiatives focused on preventing the primary diseases affecting our population, such as chronic-degenerative illnesses, oral health issues, respiratory diseases, gastrointestinal infections, and mental health conditions.
Medical Services
We firmly believe that health should be within everyone’s reach. However, many families face obstacles that prevent them from receiving timely medical care.
These obstacles can include the distance to healthcare centers, lack of transportation, consultation or travel costs, lost wages from a missed workday, and even fear, misinformation, or stigma.
That is why we work to bring healthcare services closer to those who need them most. We provide free primary care at our family community clinic and also deliver our services directly to the communities where vulnerable populations live: peripheral neighborhoods, rural delegations, and ranches.
Our commitment is clear: to reduce barriers and accompany every family with dignified, accessible, and compassionate care.
Our Programs
Our programs are designed to close significant gaps in service delivery for the most vulnerable populations. These programs encompass nutrition initiatives, primary healthcare, disease prevention, and mental health care.
Family Community Clinic
Fundación Astra operates a community clinic in El Centenario, offering free general medicine, psychology, and nutrition services since 2018, alongside workshops and health promotion activities.
Primary Healthcare for Hard-to-Reach Communities
We provide free primary care to vulnerable communities, overcoming geographical, economic, and social barriers, through both clinic-based services and outreach in marginalized areas where healthcare access is limited.
Health Workshops for Specific Groups
We deliver health workshops tailored to specific groups, providing practical and preventive information to reinforce healthy habits, promote well-being, and address the unique needs of each community.
Health Campaigns / Community Health Days
We conduct community health campaigns in vulnerable areas, bringing free medical services, prevention, and guidance to meet immediate needs and improve access to health in marginalized zones.

President
Nancy Harris MD is a California-based physician with 35 years of experience in international public and humanitarian health, specifically among indigenous and underserved populations. In 1998, she founded the non-profit organization Terma Foundation, and in 2018, she established Fundación Astra to manage Terma Foundation’s programs in Baja California Sur..
Francoise Begaux
Operations Director
Francoise Begaux is a Belgian physical therapist. She began her humanitarian journey with Doctors Without Borders (MSF) and has dedicated the last 30 years to developing and implementing culturally adapted health education programs in Tibet, Nepal, Brazil, and Myanmar. She joined the Terma Foundation team in 2002 and has served as the Program Director for Fundación Astra since its inception in 2018..

Board Secretary
Carla Wilson PhD is a renowned professional and researcher in Oriental Medicine and former Dean of the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in San Francisco, California. Dr. Wilson brings more than 30 years of organizational leadership and clinical experience to the programs and services offered by Fundación Astra.
